The prescription drug, commonly prescribed for treating a variety of infections, has been recalled by the FDA because of the potentially harmful effect of Augmentin. The FDA has also asked the company to stop selling the drug and to inform customers that it is not authorized to dispense it. In addition, the FDA also asked that the company make certain changes to its product information, such as changing the label to warn about potential allergic reactions, as well as changing the medication’s labeling to include warning of liver damage.
The FDA issued a recall notice in response to concerns about the potential for an increase in the risk of liver damage from the use of Augmentin. The agency said that the company was “notifying all of our customers that there is an increased risk of liver injury with the use of Augmentin, and we are arranging for prompt action to address this issue.”
